about

In 2005 I was in the middle of a transformation from one place to another. I had moved away from Dundee at the end of 2004 and was now living in Cuckfield with my girlfriend, Milly. Thee Moths was becoming more electronic but I still had these songs I'd written in the previous two years kicking around.

Going through a bit of a sub-Microphones/wannabe Phil Elverum phase, I wrote a torrent of 'hello Universe' 'nature boy' nonsense fueled, in part, by a massive increase in the dosage of my anti-depressants. The songs wound up on the 'Sand In Our Pockets' EP and the album 'Nature'

I had no idea at the time, but this was pretty much the peak of the success Thee Moths would enjoy and it was that moderate level of underground 'fame' that saw me playing down an international phone line to Nadav on Brown Student Radio on a hot afternoon in May 2005.

I've tried to clean up the audio as much as possible, but it is what it is.

Some of the songs are ok, some are a bit hippy-dippy, and the winsome way I perform them really grates on my ears now, but they accurately reflect where I believed I was at that time in my life.

As a bonus track, there's the whole show, including the introduction. I've tried to make it sound a bit better by adding a touch of reverb and making it faux-stereo, but in all honesty it still sounds like a man in his early thirties, playing a nylon-strung acoustic guitar, down a phone line to the other side of the world.
